Delhi: IndiGo Airlines has rolled out a major compensation initiative for passengers who faced long delays and severe inconvenience during the widespread disruptions between December 3 and 5. The airline confirmed that travellers who were stranded for several hours due to airport congestion will receive travel vouchers of up to ₹10,000, valid for any IndiGo flight over the next year.

In a public statement, IndiGo acknowledged that the operational chaos left many passengers stuck inside terminals for extended periods. To address the inconvenience, the airline said it is extending compensation beyond regulatory requirements. Under government rules, affected passengers are already entitled to ₹5,000–₹10,000 depending on the flight duration and proximity to departure. The additional vouchers are meant to provide further relief to those most impacted.

The disruptions have stretched into the tenth consecutive day, as IndiGo continues to battle staffing shortages and operational hurdles. On Thursday alone, more than 100 flights were cancelled, adding to the growing frustration among travellers.

Amid mounting pressure, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has summoned IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers for a detailed briefing. The aviation watchdog has sought a comprehensive report outlining the causes of the meltdown, corrective measures underway, and the airline’s plan to stabilise operations.
