Srinagar: Indian Army, Kupwara Terriers in collaboration with National IT Institute, Kupwara establishes a computer training centre at Awoora on New Year’s Day today.

Lt Col Vikram Singh Yadav, from 160 Infantry Battalion TA inaugurated the computer training centre here on Saturday at Awoora, Kupwara. The computer training centre will benefit not only the students but also those who are keen towards learning vocational IT expertise. This remote village has been lacking basic amenities like education, today where the Indian Army emerged as enablers.

Maj Amit Sharma, Gulgam company commander, Kupwara Terriers undertook this novel infra development initiative with an aim to ensure long-term sustainability of basic computer training and ameliorate the quality of education of the deserving youth of this remote village. In addition to the inauguration ceremony, Kupwara Terriers suitably utilised the event to distribute sweets among the children of the village as a goodwill gesture on the eve of new year.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed a huge response from villagers, and the youth with more than 250 residents, including men, women and students. Inauguration ceremony was concluded with tea and refreshments wherein Javid Ahmad Zargar (Tehsildar Kupwara), Tahira Begum (DDC Qadirabad), Gh Nabi (Sarpanch Awoora A) Ma Jawahar Begum (Sarpanch Awoora ‘C’), Manzoor Ahmad and many more students extended their heartfelt gratitude towards Kupwara Terriers.

Initiatives likes these are reassuring not only because it epitomises commitment and dedication of the Indian Army towards the people of Jammu & Kashmir but also because in these initiatives exists a potential of socially uplifting a section of the society which not only suffers socio-economically but also lives under a constant threat of geopolitical instability.
