New Delhi: The Indian government on Monday took action against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) over its coverage of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people. According to government officials, a formal letter was sent to the BBC, objecting to its use of the term “militants” to describe the perpetrators of the attack. The government has expressed concerns that such language could mislead the public and downplay the severity of the terrorist act.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), through its XP division, will be closely monitoring BBC’s future reporting on the incident to ensure that the coverage aligns with India’s position on terrorism.
This move by the Indian government follows its recent action against 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including those of prominent news outlets like Dawn, Samaa TV, ARY News, and Geo News, which were accused of spreading communally sensitive content and misinformation about India. The government had previously flagged the platforms for attempting to incite discord and instability in the region following the tragic attack in Pahalgam.
