Pakistani Nationals Failing to Exit India by Deadline Face Up to Rs 3 Lakh Fine or 3 Years in Jail

New Delhi: In a firm response to the growing security concerns following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian government has imposed strict penalties on Pakistani nationals who fail to leave the country by the specified deadlines. The government’s action follows the tragic killing of 26 people, mostly tourists, by Pakistan-linked terrorists on April 22.

As per the new directives, Pakistani nationals holding SAARC visas were given a deadline of April 26 to exit India, while those holding medical visas must leave by April 29. Any failure to comply with the ‘Leave India’ notice could lead to serious consequences.

The Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025, which came into effect on April 4, mandates that overstaying or violating visa conditions will result in a jail term of up to three years, a fine of up to Rs 3 lakh, or both.
