Mumbai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the fourth edition of India Maritime Week (IMW 2025) on Monday, marking the event with a floral tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj—a symbol of India’s rich maritime legacy. The ceremony underscored the government’s commitment to revitalizing India’s maritime strength and advancing its Maritime Vision 2030.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Shah said, “India believes in cooperation, and we have prepared a roadmap for it.” He highlighted that Maritime Vision 2030 aims to modernize port infrastructure, enhance coastal connectivity, and make India a major hub for global trade.

Shah announced that the government is developing new mega and deep-draft ports to increase India’s port handling capacity to 10,000 million metric tonnes (MT). He emphasized that India’s strategic location at the intersection of global trade routes such as the India–Middle East–Europe Corridor (IMEC) and the North–South Transport Corridor positions the nation as a pivotal maritime power.

The upcoming Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra, Shah revealed, is projected to become one of the top ten ports in the world, further reinforcing India’s global standing in shipping and logistics.

IMW 2025 has drawn delegations and ministers from 11 countries and is expected to attract over 100,000 participants from more than 85 nations, including 500 exhibitors and 350 industry experts. The week-long event will feature sessions on the Blue Economy, port innovation, shipbuilding, and maritime security, reflecting India’s growing influence in international maritime cooperation.

  1. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was curious what all is required to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very web savvy so I’m not 100 certain. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
