India stood firm against China’s diplomatic protest over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Arunachal Pradesh, dismissing objections and reiterating the state’s integral status within the Indian territory.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal rebuffed China’s comments regarding PM Modi’s visit, emphasizing that Indian leaders routinely visit Arunachal Pradesh, akin to other states of the country. Jaiswal asserted that China’s objections to such visits or India’s developmental projects lacked justification.
Furthermore, Jaiswal emphasized that the state of Arunachal Pradesh has always been an integral and inalienable part of India, a reality that remains unchanged despite Chinese opposition. India has consistently communicated this position to China on numerous occasions.
The diplomatic spat stemmed from PM Modi’s inauguration of the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, providing Indian troops with enhanced access to areas near the disputed border between the two nations. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin criticized Modi’s visit, reiterating China’s stance of not recognizing Arunachal Pradesh as a legitimate entity and opposing any activities in the region.
China’s objections to Indian leaders’ visits to Arunachal Pradesh are grounded in its claim over the territory, which it refers to as South Tibet and has designated as Zangnan. However, India has steadfastly rejected China’s territorial assertions, maintaining that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of its sovereign territory.
India’s response underscores its commitment to upholding its territorial integrity and dismissing external interference in its domestic affairs. As tensions persist between the two Asian giants over territorial disputes, India’s resolute stance on Arunachal Pradesh reaffirms its sovereignty and reinforces its position on the international stage.
