India Flags “Serious Pattern of Violence” Against Minorities in Bangladesh After Hindu Youth’s Killing

Delhi: India on Friday raised strong concerns over the safety of minority communities in Bangladesh, condemning the killing of a Hindu youth and warning that repeated incidents of violence point to a troubling pattern rather than isolated events. The Ministry of External Affairs said such attacks demand urgent accountability and firm action from authorities in the neighbouring country.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said New Delhi is deeply unsettled by the continued reports of targeted violence against minorities, noting that these incidents undermine social harmony and the rule of law. He stressed that India expects those responsible for the latest killing to be identified and punished through due process.

The remarks came in the wake of the death of a Hindu man in Bangladesh’s Rajbari region, where he was allegedly attacked by a mob following accusations of wrongdoing. This incident followed another similar killing earlier this month, intensifying concerns over the safety of religious minorities.

Rejecting claims that India is exaggerating the situation or interfering in Bangladesh’s internal affairs, the MEA dismissed what it described as attempts to frame the issue as an “anti-India narrative.” Jaiswal underlined that ensuring public order and protecting citizens, irrespective of faith, is the responsibility of Bangladesh’s interim administration.

According to figures cited by Indian officials, thousands of incidents involving intimidation, violence, and attacks on minority groups — including Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists — have been recorded in recent months. The MEA emphasised that these numbers reflect a serious ground reality and cannot be explained away as routine political clashes or media distortion.

On political developments in Bangladesh ahead of elections scheduled early next year, including speculation over the return of senior opposition leaders, India reiterated its support for a transparent and democratic electoral process. The spokesperson said such developments should be viewed through the lens of democratic norms and institutional responsibility.
