In order to instill fear in minds of perpetrators of crime against women, Govt mulling on Disha like law of Andhra, says HM Eknath Shinde

Minister for Home Eknath Shinde on Wednesday said that the state government is seriously considering enacting a law on the lines of the Disha law of  Andhra Pradesh so that the women and girls can be move about fearlessly in the state and that the criminals have fear of the law. He said this in the Legislative Council on Wednesday while replying to a debate raised on a calling attention notice moved by Manisha Kayande (Shiv Sena) and others on rising incidents of crimes against women.

The Minister said that the aim of the government is to ensure that women do not feel afraid of anything. Shinde said that the government is committed towards giving equal justice to all the sections of the society.

Shinde said that the state government was seriously considering enacting a law on the lines of the Disha law of  Andhra Pradesh so that the existing rules and laws should be strictly implemented for women to be protected and the culprits should be punished in by cracking the case in the least possible time. He said that the government has studied the Disha law passed by the Andhra Pradesh government. There has been discussion with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Director General of Police Subodh Jaiswal. He said that the law and justice department will take further action regarding the changes to be made in the existing law.

The Home Minister informed the house about the steps taken by the state government to curb the atrocities against women and children. In order to expedite the disposal of cases of such atrocities, 25 special courts and 27 fast track courts have been established in the state. Also, the Center has recently approved 30 special courts for child abuse cases in Maharashtra and 108 special fast track courts for cases of torture against women. Therefore, the expeditious disposal of cases will instill fear of the law in the minds of the criminals, said Shinde.

In regards to detection of Cyber Crime, 43 out of 47 police stations have been set up in the state. He also announced that 164 temporary vacancies in the cyber crime department will be filled in two months. Leader of Opposition Praveen Darekar (BJP), Vidya Chavan (NCP), Suresh Dhas, Bhai Girkar (both BJP), Jogendra Kawade (PRP), Ravindra Phatak (Shiv Sena) and others participated in the discussion.
