IGP Kashmir Calls for Proactive Crime Control, Zero Tolerance Against Drug Trafficking

Srinagar: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi (IPS), on Monday reviewed the prevailing crime situation and assessed the crime control measures implemented by district police during 2025.

During the review meeting, various police stations presented detailed data on crime trends, detection rates, preventive policing initiatives, and steps taken to strengthen investigation and prosecution mechanisms.

Emphasising the need for intelligence-led and proactive policing, IGP Birdi directed officers to maintain strict surveillance over crime-prone areas and habitual offenders. He stressed the importance of timely registration of cases and professional, evidence-based investigations to ensure effective prosecution.

The IGP also laid special focus on tackling the growing drug menace in the Valley. Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, he instructed officers to intensify enforcement actions while simultaneously strengthening preventive and awareness campaigns to curb substance abuse.

The visit reaffirmed the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s commitment to enhancing crime control mechanisms and ensuring public safety and confidence.

The meeting was attended by DIG NKR, SSP Baramulla, SSP Sopore, SSP Handwara, Additional SP Baramulla, SP Operations Baramulla, ASP Headquarters Baramulla, CPO DPHQ, and all SDPOs, SHOs, and In-Charge Police Posts of district Baramulla.
