Kolkata: Senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Thursday indicated a renewed political role after holding a meeting with West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya at the party’s Salt Lake office, a day after his interaction with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Ghosh announced that he would participate in a public rally led by the state BJP president on January 13, signalling his return to active organisational work. Emphasising his loyalty, Ghosh said he remains ready to take on any responsibility assigned by the party, including contesting Assembly elections if asked.
“I was always with my party. I will do everything that the party asks me to do,” Ghosh said, adding that outreach across all 294 Assembly constituencies would require coordinated efforts by multiple leaders rather than concentrating activities in one place.
Ghosh had earlier found himself on the sidelines following his visit to the Jagannath Temple inauguration in Digha and his interaction with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Addressing the controversy, he dismissed suggestions that the temple visit caused political friction, saying his presence there was incidental and part of his routine engagement with public issues.
Widely regarded as the key strategist behind the BJP’s organisational expansion in West Bengal, Ghosh played a central role in establishing the party as the principal challenger to the ruling Trinamool Congress. Despite this, the TMC leadership has maintained confidence about retaining power in the state.
