Guwahati – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday hit out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his recent allegation that Haryana was poisoning the Yamuna waters being supplied to Delhi. Sarma called Kejriwal’s statement “unfounded” and accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader of revealing his “mentality” through such comments.

Sarma, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, questioned how Kejriwal could make such a serious allegation against Haryana, which is his birthplace. He remarked, “I would rather die than speak ill about my birthplace. How can he make such a statement about Haryana?” Sarma expressed disbelief at the claim, stating that no politician should ever speak negatively about their place of birth.

“To divert the issue of the polluted Yamuna River, Arvind Kejriwal started a new narrative, claiming that Haryana is supplying polluted water to Delhi. I will die but never speak wrong about my birthplace. This statement by Arvind Kejriwal shows his mentality,” Sarma said.

The comments came in the wake of a growing controversy sparked by Kejriwal’s allegations against Haryana’s BJP government for allegedly sending contaminated water to Delhi for drinking purposes. The Delhi CM has been vocal about the issue, urging the central government to take action against Haryana.

Sarma, however, dismissed the allegations and emphasized that Kejriwal’s words were politically motivated and lacked any factual basis. He added, “I have seen many politicians, but never one who speaks so poorly about his birthplace.”
