Parts of Mumbai and several other districts in Maharashtra have been pounded by heavy rains, causing disruptions in daily life. The District Collector of Thane took preventive measures to ensure the safety of school students and declared a holiday for all schools in the district on July 28, 2023.
A notice issued by the authorities stated, “In accordance with the current heavy rains and the forecast of further downpours by the Meteorological Department, it is anticipated that school students from 1st to 12th grades may face difficulties in commuting. In the interest of student safety, all schools in the district will remain closed on the mentioned date.”
Palghar district in Maharashtra also experienced heavy rainfall, prompting the District Collector to announce the closure of both schools and colleges on July 28, 2023. This decision applies to both government and private educational institutions in the region.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an orange to red alert for Mumbai today due to the incessant rains. Other areas, such as Raigad, have been issued a red alert, resulting in school closures on July 26, and continued closures on July 27, 2023.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in the city and suburban areas, with a red alert in effect from 8 pm on Wednesday until Thursday. Additionally, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts have been placed on an orange alert, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
