Srinagar: The Handwara police organized Thana Diwas/Lok Darbar across the district on Thursday as part of its ongoing public outreach initiative. The program focused on raising awareness and fostering discussions about the newly introduced criminal laws, particularly those emphasizing victim-centric and citizen-centric provisions.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from community members, religious leaders, local representatives, and senior citizens. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Handwara, Mushtaq Ahmad Chowdhury, and JKPS, presided over the Lok Darbar held at Police Post Magam. He addressed a diverse gathering, including Masjid Imams, Nambardars, respected elders, and other prominent citizens.

In his address, SSP Handwara highlighted key aspects of the new criminal laws, emphasizing their focus on ensuring justice for victims, safeguarding citizens’ rights, and promoting a transparent and efficient legal process. He encouraged the public to familiarize themselves with these laws and assured them of the police department’s commitment to their fair implementation and public welfare.

An interactive session followed the address, where participants raised questions and shared suggestions regarding the legal framework. SSP Handwara and other officers provided clarifications and reiterated their dedication to community policing and shared governance.

The SSP also called on the community to support the fight against drug addiction by helping identify individuals involved in drug trafficking and abuse. He urged participants to encourage sports activities to positively channel youth energy, fostering healthy lifestyles and reducing societal issues. The police department assured its full support for such initiatives under its civic action programs.

The Handwara police reaffirmed its commitment to public safety, victim support, and citizen-friendly policing, urging the community to continue cooperating in maintaining peace, harmony, and justice in the region.
