Mumbai: Mumbai is witnessing a sharp rise in green chilli prices, with rates tripling in the wholesale market, particularly in Navi Mumbai. The surge is attributed to reduced availability caused by extreme heat, which has severely impacted production and supply, reported by HT.
Previously priced between ₹40 to ₹50 per kg, green chillies now cost ₹125 to ₹160 per kg, depending on quality, as per a Hindustan Times report. The shortage is affecting both wholesale and retail markets, causing concern among consumers and traders alike.
The Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) market in Navi Mumbai, a key wholesale hub for fruits and vegetables, is also facing supply constraints. Despite its diverse vegetable offerings, many retailers are struggling to purchase bulk quantities due to the sharp price hike and declining supply.
