GJUST, C-LAB Sign MoU to Launch Child Rights Courses and Strengthen Child Protection Education

New Delhi/Hisar: In a move aimed at integrating child protection into mainstream academia, Guru Jambeshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Legal and Behaviour Change for Children (C-LAB) to introduce academic programmes focused on child rights and child protection.

The collaboration will see the introduction of undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma courses, along with joint research initiatives, designed to build institutional capacity in child protection. C-LAB, an institute incubated by India Child Protection, will develop course content and provide technical expertise, while GJUST will oversee academic implementation through its Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE).

The university will take policy decisions related to course rollout and provide infrastructure for academic delivery, with both institutions agreeing to keep fees minimal to ensure wider access and participation.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Narsi Ram Bishnoi said the initiative aligns with the university’s broader goal of contributing to national development through knowledge creation.

“It is our endeavour to produce informed and socially responsible human resources. This partnership will help create a cadre of individuals equipped to contribute to policy, law enforcement, media, and community interventions in the field of child protection,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of linking field experience with academic training, Dr Sangita Gaur, Associate Director (Training), India Child Protection, said the collaboration aims to bridge the gap between grassroots realities and academic discourse.

“This initiative will ensure that professionals across disciplines develop a rights-based understanding of child protection. It will address critical issues such as child marriage, trafficking, child labour, online safety, and legal frameworks,” she said.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Narsi Ram Bishnoi and Rajat Kumar, Trustee, India Child Protection, in the presence of university officials including Registrar Dr Vijay Kumar and Dean (International Affairs) Prof O. P. Sangwan.

GJUST, based in Hisar, is an NAAC A+ accredited institution and is ranked among the top 50 state universities in India, according to the 2025 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). The university currently offers more than 100 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes across multiple disciplines.

The collaboration comes amid growing focus on strengthening institutional responses to child protection. C-LAB has already launched a specialised certificate course for support persons dealing with cases of child sexual abuse, following a Supreme Court directive in 2023 mandating such support roles.
