New Delhi: In a fiery statement on Thursday, Union Minister Giriraj Singh accused the West Bengal government, led by Mamata Banerjee, of turning the state into a “nursery” for Bangladeshi infiltrators. Singh intensified his criticism of the Mamata Banerjee-led government, alleging that the state had rolled out the red carpet for Bangladeshis and that political figures like Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee were exploiting the issue for political gain.

“It’s laughable that the government of West Bengal first laid out a red carpet for Bangladeshis, and then Abhishek Banerjee does politics in the name of Bangladesh,” Singh remarked. He further demanded an apology from Mamata Banerjee, not just to the state but to the entire nation, for the alleged actions. “Mamata Banerjee should apologize to the state and the whole country. The way they spread the red carpet for Bangladeshis, and then she said nobody can remove Bangladeshis till she is there—West Bengal has become a nursery for Bangladeshi infiltrators,” he added.

Singh’s comments come amidst ongoing political tensions in the state. The Union Minister’s remarks targeted the state’s handling of infiltration issues, and he accused the ruling TMC of indirectly facilitating the entry of illegal migrants from Bangladesh into West Bengal.

The ongoing war of words between Union ministers and the West Bengal government escalated further when Mamata Banerjee herself claimed that the Border Security Force (BSF) was aiding militants and infiltrators from Bangladesh, leading to significant disruptions in the state. In a statement made during the State Administrative Review Meeting at the Nabanna Sabhaghar in Kolkata, Banerjee expressed her concern about the BSF’s role in these activities, suggesting that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) would protest if the BSF continued such alleged actions.

Banerjee’s accusations about the BSF have also sparked further debate about the security situation at the state’s borders, with her warning that if such infiltrations were not stopped, her party would take strong action.
