Gadkari Launches Rs 3,000 FASTag-Based Annual Pass for Private Vehicles; To Roll Out from August 15

New Delhi: In a major step towards smoother highway travel, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday announced the launch of a FASTag-based Annual Pass for private vehicles, effective from August 15, 2025. Priced at ₹3,000, the pass is designed to ensure cost-effective and seamless travel across India’s national highway network.

Taking to social media platform X, Gadkari shared: “In a transformative step towards hassle-free highway travel, we are introducing a FASTag-based Annual Pass priced at ₹3,000, effective from 15th August 2025. Valid for one year from the date of activation or up to 200 trips—whichever comes first—this pass is designed exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans.”

The Annual Pass will be applicable only to private vehicles and will be valid for one year or 200 highway trips, whichever is earlier. It will be available via the Rajmarg Yatra app, as well as through the official websites of NHAI and MoRTH.

According to Gadkari, this initiative resolves a long-standing public concern about multiple toll charges, especially within short 60-km stretches, and is expected to minimize congestion, reduce wait times, and streamline toll operations.

“By reducing wait times, easing congestion, and minimising disputes at toll plazas, the annual Pass aims to deliver a faster and smoother travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners,” Gadkari added.

The announcement comes amid broader scrutiny over toll management practices. In May, Congress MP and Public Accounts Committee chairperson KC Venugopal had flagged issues such as malfunctioning FASTags, excess toll charges, and poor road quality during a committee meeting.

“The committee was very concerned about these issues,” Venugopal had said, pointing out the challenges faced by the public at toll plazas.
