Full dress rehearsal of Independence Day celebrations held at Kupwara

ADC Handwara unfurls tricolour at DPL Kupwara, sub divisional functions also held.

Srinagar: A full dress rehearsal for 75th Independence Day celebrations was held on Friday here at District Police Lines (DPL) Kupwara. The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Handwara, Nazir Ahmad Mir unfurled the National Flag and took salute on March-past comprising contingents of JKP, IRP, CRPF, FPP, JK Home Guards, COVID Awareness Contingent of JKP and Police Commandos. CEO, DIO, besides District officers and other concerned were present on the occasion.

Addressing the function, the ADC congratulated the audience on the celebration of 75th Independence Day. He highlighted the historical background of the freedom struggle of India and said that today is the era of development and peace.

He said that the administration is committed to develop the socio-economic condition of the district and gave an example of the recent visit of Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha to the Bangus Valley for boosting the tourism potential in the district. He said that tireless and collaborative efforts of various departments including Health, ICDS, Revenue, RDD and others have made COVID containment efforts effective in the district, adding that 99% vaccination of above 45 years people has been achieved. He said other departments are also marching towards development.

The R & B department has taken up 54 macadamization projects, of which, 30 have been completed. Likewise, PDD has provided 436 new transformers and provided power supply to far off areas in Machil and Keran sectors for the first time. Mir expressed his tribute towards the security personnel who have sacrificed their lives for the nation.

Earlier, on his arrival, the ADC visited the Martyrs’ Memorial and laid flowers there and paid his tributes. The National Anthem was sung by students who were selected as winners in the National Anthem singing competition at district level.

Later, various cultural programmes were also presented on the occasion. Full dress rehearsal functions were also held at Handwara, Karnah and Sogam sub-divisions.

At Karnah, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Dr. Gulzar Ahmad unfurled the tricolour and took salute in the March past. Cultural programmes were also held on the occasion. At Langate, President Municipal Committee Langate, Mohammad Sadiq Mir presided over the rehearsal function and unfurled the National Flag.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara has directed all officers and officials to ensure their presence in the Independence Day function on August 15.
