Mumbai: Former MLA Krishna Hegde has written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, requesting that the Carter Road promenade opposite the iconic ‘Ashirwad’ bungalow be named after India’s first superstar, Rajesh Khanna.

Hegde has also proposed that a statue of the legendary actor be erected at the site in his honour.

Though ‘Ashirwad’ bungalow has since been sold and redeveloped into a residential tower, Hegde noted that it will always remain etched in public memory as the residence where Rajesh Khanna lived most of his life.

“The Carter Road promenade already hosts numerous shows and cultural programmes. Naming it after Rajesh Khanna and installing his statue would turn it into a major tourist attraction in Mumbai for movie lovers from across India and the world,” Hegde said.
