Elon Musk Threatens to Launch ‘America Party’ as Trump’s Massive Spending Bill Sparks Sharp Clash

Washington: In a fresh escalation of tensions between billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump, Musk on Monday slammed the Republicans’ sweeping domestic spending proposal — nicknamed the “One Big Beautiful Bill” — as an outrageous burden on American taxpayers.

As the Senate prepared for a crucial vote, Musk took to X with a barrage of criticisms, calling the bill “insane” and accusing Republican lawmakers of abandoning their traditional fiscal conservatism. He warned that if the measure passes, he would spearhead the formation of a new political outfit called the “America Party” to challenge what he described as a corrupt two-party system.

“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame! And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth,” Musk posted on X, taking a rare swipe at Republican legislators who have generally enjoyed his support on issues like immigration.

Within hours, Musk intensified his threat, writing: “If the insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day. Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.”

The Senate bill in question, according to a Congressional Budget Office estimate cited by CNN, would balloon the federal deficit by nearly $3.3 trillion over the next ten years — substantially more than the $2.4 trillion added under the House version.

While Trump and Senate Republicans argue that the bill slashes the deficit and fuels economic growth, analysts point out that it extends the costly 2017 tax cuts without fully accounting for their impact on the debt. The Senate package includes deeper tax breaks but fewer offsetting spending cuts, raising questions about its long-term fiscal impact.

Although Musk dismissed claims that his opposition stems from losing electric vehicle or solar subsidies, he did accuse the legislation of “handing out favors to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future.”
