The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken a significant step towards transparency by making the electoral bonds data public, following the directives of the Supreme Court of India. The unveiling of this data comes after the State Bank of India (SBI) submitted the details to the election body, adhering to the court’s orders.
Among the notable revelations from the released list are the top contributors to political parties, which include prominent corporate entities such as Grasim Industries, Megha Engineering, and Piramal Enterprises. Additionally, names like Apollo Tyres, Lakshmi Mittal, Edelweiss, PVR, Keventer, Sula Wine, Welspun, and Sun Pharma emerge as significant contributors. Notably, Torrent Power, Bharti Airtel, DLF Commercial Developers, and Vedanta Ltd also feature prominently among the list of major donors to political parties.
The list further elaborates on notable contributors, including Piramal Enterprises Ltd, Muthoot Finance Limited, Pegasus Properties Private Limited, Finolex Cables Ltd, Lakshmi Niwas Mittal, Edelweiss Housing Finance Ltd, GHCL Ltd, Jindal Poly Films Limited, and ITC Limited, as reported by ANI.
The Top 10 donors listed on SBI bonds reflect Future Gaming And Hotel Services (Lottery Martin) and Megha Engineering And Infrastructure Ltd as the leading contributors. Future Gaming And Hotel Services (Lottery Martin) reportedly acquired bonds worth ₹1,368 crore, while Megha Engineering And Infrastructure Ltd secured bonds worth ₹980 crore, according to media reports. However, independent verification by Livemint could not be attained.
The data uploaded by ECI reveals that Future Gaming procured 1,368 electoral bonds, each valued at ₹1 crore since 2019, amounting to a total of ₹1,368 crore.
