In a significant move towards transparency, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has made public the data on electoral bonds, fulfilling the directives of the Supreme Court of India. This step, taken after the State Bank of India (SBI) submitted the details to the election body as per the court’s orders, allows citizens to access information regarding political donations and the companies behind them.
Now, anyone can access the list and gain insights into the donations received by each political party, as well as identify the corporate entities that have contributed funds.
The released data unveils notable revelations about the top contributors to political parties. Among these contributors are well-known corporate entities such as Grasim Industries, Megha Engineering, and Piramal Enterprises. Additionally, names like Apollo Tyres, Lakshmi Mittal, Edelweiss, PVR, Keventer, Sula Wine, Welspun, and Sun Pharma emerge as significant contributors. Notably, Torrent Power, Bharti Airtel, DLF Commercial Developers, and Vedanta Ltd also feature prominently among the list of major donors to political parties.
This disclosure of electoral bond data marks a crucial step in enhancing transparency in political funding. It empowers citizens to understand the financial support received by various political entities and promotes accountability in the democratic process.
