In a significant move, the Election Commission of India has extended the voting hours for the upcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan. The election, scheduled for November 25, will see polling take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., marking the first time such an extended voting duration has been implemented for the state.
This decision was conveyed by the Central Election Commission, indicating a substantial change from previous elections held in 2018 and 2013, where polling was conducted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The decision to extend the voting hours is expected to have a positive impact on voter turnout and may encourage more citizens to participate in the electoral process.
For the upcoming election, a total of 51,756 polling booths have been set up across the 200 assembly seats in Rajasthan. Each booth is designed to accommodate a maximum of 1,450 voters. The extended voting hours aim to ensure that all eligible voters have ample time to cast their ballots.
Additionally, the Election Commission has also increased the voting duration in Madhya Pradesh, reflecting a broader initiative to promote greater voter engagement and participation in the democratic process.
