Election Commission Challenges Rahul Gandhi to Prove Vote Theft Claims or Apologize

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday sharply responded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s persistent allegations of “voter chori” (vote theft), demanding that he either sign a formal legal declaration supporting his claims or issue a public apology to the nation.

“If Rahul Gandhi believes in his analysis and believes that his allegations against ECI are true, he should have no problem in signing the Declaration. If Rahul Gandhi does not sign the Declaration, it would mean that he does not believe in his analysis and resultant conclusions and absurd allegations. In which case he should apologise to the nation,” Election Commission sources told media.

This strong reaction from the EC follows a dramatic press conference held by Rahul Gandhi in Delhi, where he accused the BJP and the Election Commission of colluding to steal more than one lakh votes in a Karnataka assembly constituency. Using a detailed presentation, Gandhi claimed that despite Congress leading in other areas of the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha seat, BJP’s sudden lead of over 1 lakh votes in Mahadevapura turned the tide in their favor by a margin exceeding 32,000 votes.

“The EC was colluding with the BJP to steal elections. This is why they don’t give us machine-readable data,” Gandhi alleged, as reported by News18.

On the same day, Gandhi shared another video on his social media handle ‘X,’ reiterating his vote theft claims and expanding the allegations to multiple states including Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Karnataka.

“Vote theft is not just an electoral scam; it is a major betrayal committed against the Constitution and democracy. Let the nation’s culprits hear this — times will change, punishment will surely be meted out,” Gandhi wrote alongside the video.

The Election Commission’s demand for a formal declaration or apology puts the Congress leader in a position to either legally back his serious accusations or face public rebuke for raising what the EC calls “absurd allegations.”
