Bengaluru: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Karnataka Congress MLA Satish Krishna Sail in connection with a money laundering probe tied to alleged illegal iron ore exports.

Sail, who represents the Karwar Assembly constituency in Uttara Kannada, was taken into custody during the intervening night of September 9–10 after hours of questioning at the ED’s Bengaluru zonal office.

He was produced before a special court on Tuesday, which remanded him to one-day ED custody. Officials indicated that the probe agency is likely to seek an extension of his custodial remand when he is brought before the court again.

This marks the second arrest of a Congress MLA by the ED in recent weeks. In August, Chitradurga MLA K. C. Veerendra ‘Puppy’ was taken into custody in a separate money laundering investigation linked to illegal betting.
