Mumbai: Just ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election results, the political temperature in Mumbai has risen after the Election Commission issued a notice to senior Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader and former Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar. The notice follows a complaint raised by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, who has questioned the accuracy of details submitted by Pednekar during her nomination process.
According to the complaint, Somaiya has alleged that Pednekar did not fully disclose information related to cases under investigation while filing her election affidavit. He claimed that voters were denied crucial details that are required to be made public under election laws. The BJP leader has argued that transparency is essential in elections and that any omission in official disclosures amounts to misleading both authorities and the electorate.
The issue has further escalated politically, with the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena reportedly approaching the Bombay High Court, challenging Pednekar’s nomination on similar grounds. The matter has added a legal dimension to an already intense civic election battle in Mumbai.
Election officials confirmed that Pednekar has been asked to submit her response within a specified timeframe. The Returning Officer stated that the documents and affidavits provided by both sides are currently under scrutiny, and a decision will be taken after examining the explanations and records.
