Mumbai: The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition filed by Allahabad High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma, delivering a significant setback to his legal challenge. Justice Varma had approached the top court questioning the decision of the Lok Sabha Speaker to admit an impeachment motion against him and to constitute an inquiry committee under the Judges (Inquiry) Act, 1968.
With this ruling, the Supreme Court has effectively cleared the way for the impeachment-related inquiry process to continue as per constitutional and statutory provisions. The court declined to interfere with the Speaker’s decision, reinforcing the established procedure for examining allegations against members of the higher judiciary.
