New Delhi: A fresh batch of 35 Indian nationals has been deported from the United States after allegedly entering the country through illegal routes, officials confirmed on Sunday. The group, consisting mostly of men from Haryana’s Kaithal, Karnal, and Kurukshetra districts, arrived at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport late Sunday night.
According to officials, of the 35 deportees, 16 were from Karnal, 14 from Kaithal, and 5 from Kurukshetra. After completing formalities, the deportees were sent back to their respective districts, where they were reunited with their families.
“These individuals, from various villages and towns, had entered the US illegally via the ‘donkey route’ but were deported today,” said Karnal Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sandeep Kumar, as quoted by news agency ANI. “Karnal police brought them back and handed them over to their families. No complaint has been received regarding any agent so far,” he added.
Most of the deported individuals belong to the 25–40 age group. Many expressed regret over their failed attempt to settle abroad, revealing that they had invested huge sums in the hope of a better life. Naresh Kumar, one of the deportees, shared, “I spent ₹57 lakh to go to the US through the ‘donkey route’, but it all went in vain. I would never advise anyone to take this path.”
