Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday delivered a firm message on the protection of Sanatan Dharma and national values while addressing a religious congregation of the Nath Sect in Sonipat, Haryana. Speaking before saints and devotees, the Chief Minister cautioned against what he described as deliberate attempts to undermine ancient traditions under the guise of religion.
During his address, Yogi Adityanath said that forces were trying to create confusion about Sanatan Dharma and weaken its foundations. “Dharm ki aad mein sanatan ko kamzor karne ki koshish ki ja rahi hai,” he said, calling upon saints and followers to remain alert and united. Emphasising the central role of monks and saints, he added, “For saints and monks, dharma is supreme.”
The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid an ongoing controversy linked to the Magh Mela in Prayagraj, where the Mela Administration recently issued a second show-cause notice to the Shankaracharya of Jyotirmath, Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, over alleged violations of administrative norms. Without naming the incident directly, Yogi stressed the need to respect religious traditions while maintaining discipline and clarity in public life.
Explaining the ideals of monastic life, Yogi Adityanath highlighted that renunciation and service define a sanyasi. “Samyasi ki koi vyaktigat sampatti nahi hoti,” he said, underlining that personal wealth and possessions have no place in the spiritual path of monks. According to him, sacrifice and dedication to society are the true hallmarks of sainthood.
Linking spirituality with nationalism, the Chief Minister asserted that patriotism is deeply rooted in Sanatan values. “Rashtra he sanyasi ka swabhimaan… kisi ko Parampara badhit karne ka hak nahi,” Yogi said, adding that the dignity of a monk is inseparable from the dignity of the nation and its traditions.
He also warned against individuals he accused of tarnishing the image of Sanatan Dharma. “Bahut se kaalnemi sanatan ko badnam kar rahe hain, humein ise logo se bach kar rahana chahiye,” Yogi said, urging people to identify such elements and remain cautious of misinformation and divisive narratives.
