Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has launched a scathing critique against NCP president Sharad Pawar, alleging Pawar’s historical neglect regarding the issue of Maratha reservation. Fadnavis asserted that Pawar failed to address the community’s reservation needs, even during the implementation of the Mandal Commission in the state, exacerbating tensions between the OBCs and the Marathas.
Addressing a gathering of BJP office-bearers in Nagpur, Fadnavis credited the BJP government’s tenure for securing reservation for the Maratha community. He lamented that the reservation was suspended only after the departure of their government.
Fadnavis reassured the public, stating, “The BJP remains committed to ensuring fairness and justice for both the OBCs and the Marathas. We will not perpetrate injustice against either community.”
These statements underscore a contentious political discourse surrounding the issue of Maratha reservation in Maharashtra, with Fadnavis vehemently defending his party’s role and criticizing Pawar’s approach towards addressing the longstanding reservation demands of the Maratha community.
