Two Transport Staff Taken Into Custody in Delhi Assault Case
A shocking incident reported from the national capital has triggered serious concerns over passenger safety after a woman alleged that she was sexually assaulted inside a sleeper bus by the vehicle’s driver and conductor.
According to police sources, the incident took place on May 12 in the Saraswati Vihar area of Delhi. Acting on the survivor’s complaint, Delhi Police registered a case and arrested both accused shortly afterward.
FIR Registered Under Serious Charges
Police officials said a case was lodged at Delhi Police under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to rape, gang rape and common intention.
Investigators confirmed that both accused are currently in police custody and are being questioned as part of the ongoing probe. Authorities have also seized the sleeper bus involved in the alleged incident for forensic examination.
Survivor Allegedly Dragged Into Bus
Preliminary findings indicate that the woman was returning home after completing work at a factory when the alleged crime occurred.
Sources said the survivor had approached a man standing near the bus to ask for the time near a bus stand in Saraswati Vihar. She later alleged that she was forcibly pulled into the vehicle where the assault took place.
Police said the woman’s statement was formally recorded and a medical examination was conducted before the FIR was registered.
Bus Under Scanner for Safety Violations
Investigators are also examining possible transport and safety violations linked to the bus. According to officials, the vehicle allegedly had tinted windows despite restrictions on such modifications.
Authorities are additionally verifying whether the sleeper coach had mandatory emergency exit arrangements and whether the vehicle was operational at the time of the incident.
Police Examining CCTV, Forensic and Medical Evidence
Officials said forensic teams are analysing evidence collected from the bus while medical and technical reports are expected to play a key role in the investigation.
Police are also attempting to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine whether any other individuals were present inside or around the vehicle during the alleged crime.
The identities of both the survivor and the accused have not been disclosed by authorities in accordance with legal protocols. Further investigation into the matter remains underway.
