New Delhi: Delhi witnessed a significant dip in temperatures on Monday as cold northwesterly winds brought the minimum temperature down to 9.6°C, marking four degrees below normal. This comes after an unusually warm February, where February 27 recorded a minimum temperature of 19.5°C, the highest in 74 years.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), clear skies and cold northwesterly winds contributed to the sharp drop in temperature. These winds are expected to continue influencing the weather, preventing any sharp rise in the maximum temperature.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 27°C, following 28.6°C on Saturday. IMD predicts that the maximum temperature will hover between 28-30°C on Monday before dipping by 1-2°C from Tuesday to Friday, settling between 25-28°C due to persistent cold winds.

AQI Stays in “Moderate” Range, Strong Winds to Keep Pollution in Check
Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) remained in the “moderate” category for the fourth consecutive day, with a reading of 124 at 9 am on Monday and 125 at 4 pm on Sunday.

The Early Warning System for Delhi (EWS) forecasts that strong winds between 20-30 km/h from Tuesday and Wednesday will help keep the air quality in check. The AQI is expected to remain “moderate” until at least Wednesday before fluctuating between the “moderate” and “poor” categories over the following six days.

As Delhi braces for a cold yet pollution-free start to March, residents are advised to keep warm while taking advantage of improved air quality conditions.
