In a significant development, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena has recommended a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over allegations of accepting political funding from the banned pro-Khalistan terror outfit, ‘Sikhs for Justice.’

The action comes following a complaint alleging that Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received a substantial sum of $16 million from the pro-Khalistan group to support the release of Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar and promote pro-Khalistani sentiments.

The principal secretary to LG Saxena penned a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs, citing evidence from a video purportedly featuring Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the Khalistani terrorist and founder of the banned organization Sikhs For Justice. The video allegedly claims that AAP, under Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership, received substantial funding from Khalistani groups between 2014 and 2022.

The letter also references a supposed “clandestine meeting” between Kejriwal and pro-Khalistani Sikhs at Gurudwara Richmond Hills, New York, in 2014. It accuses Kejriwal of promising to facilitate Bhullar’s release in exchange for funding from Khalistani outfits to AAP.

Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar is a convict in the 1993 Delhi bomb blasts case, adding gravity to the allegations.

Further substantiating the claims, the letter mentions a picture shared by an AAP worker, Munish Kumar Raizada, depicting Kejriwal meeting Sikh leaders at Richmond Hill Gurudwara. The officer also alleges that Kejriwal held a closed-door meeting with pro-Khalistan Sikh leaders.

The letter refers to a correspondence by Kejriwal to former President Pranab Mukherjee, seeking clemency for Bhullar, suggesting the government’s sympathetic stance towards the issue. It also points out media reports from that time highlighting Kejriwal’s assurances regarding Bhullar’s release.

In response to the allegations, AAP has denounced the move, branding it as yet another conspiracy against Kejriwal orchestrated by the BJP. The party contends that the LG’s recommendation for an NIA probe is politically motivated and devoid of merit.

As the controversy unfolds, the recommendation for an NIA probe has intensified the political heat in Delhi, setting the stage for a potentially contentious investigation into the allegations against the Chief Minister.
