The Delhi High Court has declined a plea seeking the postponement of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI) CA Exams 2024, as reported by Bar and Bench.

Scheduled for May 2024, the CA Intermediate and Final exams have faced requests for a rescheduling to June due to the impending 18th Lok Sabha general elections.

Rejecting the plea, the bench remarked, “You want the CA exams to be postponed? Is there some law that says there can’t be any exams during Lok Sabha elections? You have no business to be CA if you can’t study due to elections,” as reported by Hindustan Times.

Furthermore, the court emphasized that the potential hardships faced by exam candidates cannot warrant derailing the examinations, which are vital for approximately 4.26 lakh aspirants.

Students, CA professionals, and various student associations have been exerting pressure on the ICAI to reconsider the exam dates throughout the past month. They even addressed an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing concerns over distractions caused by election-related activities.

Citing potential challenges such as traffic congestion and noise pollution near exam centers, aspirants urged for a rescheduling of the exams.

In response to the Lok Sabha Election dates announcement, ICAI revised the CA Examination schedule, but opted to retain the exams within May rather than shifting them to June. The revised timetable now spans from May 2 to May 17, accommodating both the election dates and the exam schedule.

Despite the overlapping dates with the Lok Sabha elections, the ICAI has chosen not to defer the exams, maintaining its commitment to the scheduled timeline.

With phase three of the Lok Sabha elections slated for May 7, 2024, covering 12 states, and phase four set for May 13, 2024, encompassing 10 states, the ICAI CA exams are scheduled to proceed on both dates as per the updated timetable.
