Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has firmly refuted speculations about his foray into politics. Addressing the recent flurry of media reports suggesting his potential candidacy in the Lok Sabha polls, the actor took to his official X account on Monday (April 8) to set the record straight.

In a post, Dutt unequivocally stated, “I would like to put all rumours about me joining politics to rest. I am not joining any party or contesting elections. If I do decide to step into the political arena then I will be the first one to announce it.” He urged his fans and followers to disregard the circulating rumours.

This declaration isn’t unfamiliar territory for the actor, who has previously dispelled similar assertions. In 2019, he rebuffed Maharashtra Minister Mahadev Jankar’s claim of his affiliation with Rashtriya Samaj Paksh, emphasizing his focus on his film career and personal life.

While Sanjay Dutt’s family background has deep ties to politics—his father, the late actor Sunil Dutt, served as a Member of Parliament for the Congress, and his sister, Priya Dutt, is a former MP of Congress from Mumbai—the actor has maintained his distance from active political participation.

In 2009, Dutt briefly ventured into politics as a Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate from the Lucknow Lok Sabha constituency. However, his candidacy was short-lived as he withdrew following the court’s refusal to suspend his conviction under the Arms Act. Although appointed as the General Secretary of the SP, Dutt ultimately resigned and bid adieu to the party.

Meanwhile, on the cinematic front, the actor gears up for his upcoming projects, including “Baap” and “Welcome To The Jungle,” featuring an ensemble cast of over 20 co-stars. Scheduled for release on December 20, 2024, these films promise to showcase Dutt’s enduring charm and versatility on the silver screen.
