New Delhi: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Thursday (February 27) referred the damning Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report on the liquor policy to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), directing it to submit its findings within three months.
The Speaker also instructed the Excise Department to file a detailed action-taken report within a month, escalating the scrutiny over alleged irregularities in the AAP government’s controversial excise policy.
The CAG report, tabled on February 25, exposed massive lapses in liquor regulation, leading to revenue losses exceeding ₹2,026.91 crore. It highlighted payments made for liquor bottles that were never authenticated through barcode scanning at Points of Sale (POS), raising serious concerns over financial mismanagement and regulatory failures.
The liquor policy, introduced by the previous AAP government in 2021-22, had sparked a political storm, ultimately leading to the arrest of top AAP leaders, including former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. The policy was scrapped in July 2022 after Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena recommended a CBI probe into the matter.
