Deadly pandemic Corona likely to spread in Guntur as MLA holds birthday bash?

Invites thousands of supporters. Millions of lives put at risk.

Guntur has not a single Corona case till now.

Mumbai: While the entire world is struggling to overcome pandemic COVID19, also known as Corona Virus, some foolhardy Indian politicians like Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA from Guntur (West) Maddali Giridhara Rao are making the situation life threatening for fellow citizens and difficult for the administration.

Even as the controversy over former Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and her son Dushyant Singh attending a party where Corona hit singer Kanika Kapoor was present, is far from ending, it is now Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA from Guntur (West) Maddali Giridhara Rao, has kicked one. He celebrated birthday on Saturday morning amidst much fan-fair. Thousands of his supporters had gathered for the party, which, according to information included celebrities, fans, women and youth.

At the time when the central as well as state governments are leaving no stone unturned to protect people from the pandemic, some law makers like the TDP MLA seem to be hell-bent on destroying the efforts. This comes at a time when governments are imposing restrictions on mass gatherings and enforcing social distancing.

Ironically, after inviting thousands of followers to the party, Rao appealed the people of his constituency to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call of Janata Curfew and remain indoors tomorrow. According to information, an all faith prayer meeting was also held during the congregation. Several noted personalities such as Padarthi Ramesh Gandhi, Chandragiri Esuratnam and Kavati Manohar Naidu were present on the occasion.

As the country enters Stage 2 of Corona and the administration is frantically trying to prevent the progression to Stage 3, the irresponsible act by people’s representative is only adding to the trouble. When contacted MLA Maddali Giridhara Rao initially denied having organised any celebration. But after further questioning, confessed that around 1500 people had gathered for the programme.

The officials at district medical and health office, Guntur, were not aware of the gathering and were shocked to know about it. “There not a single case of Corona recorded in our district as of now. We are appealing people to call off public gathering and celebrations including marriages. It is surprising that MLA has organised such a huge party. We will immediately screen the people who attended the same,” a senior health officer said, who did not wish to be named.
