Patna: A day after the Mahagathbandhan suffered one of its most devastating defeats in the Bihar Assembly Election 2025, Rohini Acharya—daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav—stunned the political landscape by announcing her exit from politics and distancing herself from her family.
In an emotional post on X, she claimed she was asked to walk away from both politics and her own family members. Without naming positions or roles, Rohini wrote: “I’m quitting politics and I’m disowning my family… This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez asked me to do, and I’m taking all the blame.” The statement sparked intense debate and speculation, adding a dramatic twist to an already turbulent period for the RJD.
Her announcement came against the backdrop of the NDA’s historic sweep in Bihar. The BJP–JD(U)-led alliance delivered a commanding performance, winning 202 out of 243 seats—one of the biggest victories in the state’s political history. The BJP secured 89 seats, followed closely by the JD(U) with 85, marking a strong comeback for the ruling coalition. Among allied parties, LJP (Ram Vilas) won 19, HAM secured 5, while the Rashtra Lok Morcha bagged 4 of the 6 seats it contested.
In stark contrast, the Mahagathbandhan recorded one of its worst electoral results. The RJD, once the single largest party with 75 seats in 2020, plunged to just 26 wins out of 141 seats contested. The Congress, contesting 61 seats, managed to win only 6. Political analysts describe the outcome as both an overachievement by the NDA and a strategic collapse within the Opposition camp.
Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, which was projected to shape voter sentiment in several regions, failed to open its account. Experts believe its presence may have influenced vote shares in select constituencies, an area that warrants deeper analysis.
