The announcement was made by Education Minister A. Namachivayam as the Union Territory grapples with the cyclone’s aftermath, including severe flooding in several areas.
Coastal regions of north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have been lashed by intense rainfall, with the Sankaraparani River in Puducherry witnessing a surge that inundated over 200 homes in NR Nagar. Residents in the flood-hit area remain stranded as rescue operations are underway. The Indian Army, in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), is actively involved in evacuation efforts, providing assistance to affected families.
Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert and avoid venturing out unnecessarily. Relief measures, including food and medical aid, are being coordinated to ensure the safety and well-being of the impacted population.
