Srinagar: The 179 battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) distributed wheelchairs to two handicapped persons and essential medicines to two critically ill patients in Wadoora Payeen in Sopore on Saturday.

The wheel chairs were handed over by Commandant 179 battalion Rabish Kumar Singh to two persons who are handicapped due to polio at Wadoora Payeen. The CRPF said it intends to reach out to people in remote areas and extend medical help to them.

“Camps like these also enhance the connection with people and go a long way in strengthening the bond between CRPF and the local populace and this will go a long way in benefiting the elderly and all those who require such assistance”, remarked a local from Wadoora Payeen.

It is pertinent to mention that the 179 battalion of CRPF has been in the forefront of activities which benefit various sections of society.  Various welfare projects have been undertaken in and around Sopore from time to time.

The handicapped persons namely Ghulam Nabi Mir and Hilal Ahmad Bhat have been affected by Polio since birth. Their parents had lost their hope to the killer disease and they used to carry their sons on their shoulders. In order to ease the movement of the both, the CRPF under its Madadgaar initiative donated the wheelchairs to the family.

Commandant of the 179 battalion Rabish Kumar Singh while talking to thenews21.com assured that these programmes will continue in future and they are always ready to help local populace. Parents of the handicapped persons and locals while thanking 179 battalion of CRPF lauded their efforts and friendly gesture.
