Congress Pushes Grassroots Reset: New District Chiefs Appointed Across 14 States

Delhi: The Congress party has crossed a major milestone in its nationwide organisational overhaul, completing a key phase of its internal reform campaign in 14 states. As part of this drive, hundreds of new leaders have been brought in at the district level to strengthen the party’s base.

Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal said that a total of 525 new district-level presidents have been selected so far under the party’s restructuring programme. He added that the initiative has now entered its next stage, with the process formally rolled out in six more states.

The update came after a high-level meeting at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi, where top office-bearers, state in-charges and Pradesh Congress Committee leaders reviewed the progress of the campaign and outlined future steps.

According to party leaders, clear timelines have been set for completing the organisational structure at every level. District committees are expected to be finalised within two weeks, block units within a month, and committees at the mandal, village and booth levels within two months.

The party leadership has also stressed that the new structure must reflect social diversity, ensuring adequate representation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and minority communities.

Alongside appointments, state units have been instructed to conduct regular training programmes for workers at district and block levels, with the aim of making the organisation more active and better connected with local issues.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has been personally monitoring the exercise and has held multiple meetings with state leaders from across the country. These discussions are focused on improving coordination, resolving internal challenges and preparing the party for upcoming political battles.
