Patna: A government school teacher was taken into custody in Bihar’s Supaul district after an incident during Republic Day celebrations sparked outrage among locals and parents. The incident happened on Monday at a government middle school in the Kishunpur block area.
According to officials, the teacher, identified as Mansoor Alam, raised slogans praising Pakistan’s founder moments after the national anthem was completed during the flag-hoisting ceremony. Several students, confused and influenced, reportedly repeated the slogans along with him.
The behaviour shocked other teachers, parents, and villagers who were present at the school to attend the Republic Day function. Many residents strongly objected, saying the act was against the spirit of the Constitution and disrespectful to the national occasion.
As anger grew, people gathered inside the school campus and demanded strict action against the teacher. The school headmaster quickly informed the local police after the situation began to turn tense.
Meanwhile, a video of the incident spread rapidly on social media, leading to more people joining the protest. Some residents demanded that the accused be handed over to them, further escalating tensions.
Police officers rushed to the spot, controlled the crowd, and safely took the teacher to the police station under protection. A formal complaint was registered based on the headmaster’s statement.
During questioning, students reportedly told police that the teacher had earlier made positive remarks about Pakistan and tried to influence children with such views. Police officials said statements of students have been recorded and the teacher’s background is being thoroughly checked.
Senior officers stated that the matter is being treated seriously, especially as it involves children and a national event. The accused will be produced before a court, and further investigation is ongoing.
