Congress MP R Sudha Robbed in Delhi’s High-Security Chanakyapuri Zone, Appeals to Amit Shah for Justice

New Delhi: In a serious lapse of security in the heart of the national capital, Congress MP from Mayiladuthurai, R Sudha, was allegedly robbed of her gold chain during a morning walk near the Polish Embassy in Chanakyapuri, a high-security diplomatic enclave. The incident occurred around 6:15 am on Monday, raising deep concerns about safety in even the most secured areas of Delhi.

In a detailed letter addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Sudha described the traumatic ordeal, stating that a man wearing a full-face helmet and riding a Scooty approached from the opposite direction and snatched her gold chain, weighing over 4 sovereigns.

“Since he was coming slowly from the opposite direction, I did not suspect he could be a chain-snatcher. As he pulled the chain from my neck, I suffered injuries, and my churidhar got torn due to the impact. I somehow managed not to fall, and both of us cried for help,” Sudha wrote.

Sudha, who has been staying at Tamil Nadu House for the past year, was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Ms. Rajathi during the incident. After the robbery, the MPs approached a Delhi Police mobile patrol vehicle nearby and were advised to file a written complaint at the local police station.

Calling the attack “shocking” and “unacceptable,” Sudha expressed her alarm at being assaulted in one of the most protected zones of the capital.

“This blatant attack on a woman MP in a zone full of embassies and protected institutions is highly shocking. If a woman cannot walk safely here, where else can we feel safe in India?” she questioned in her letter to the Home Minister.

Sudha concluded her letter by requesting swift action, urging authorities to use CCTV footage from the area to identify and arrest the perpetrator, and to recover her stolen chain. She described herself as “highly traumatised” and demanded justice without delay.
