Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday extended their greetings to citizens on the occasion of Onam and Eid Milad-un-Nabi, emphasising happiness, peace, togetherness and social harmony.
PM Modi Wishes Citizens On Onam
Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his Onam greetings on social media, describing the festival as an occasion that brings people together and celebrates prosperity.
“Wishing everyone a beautiful Onam. This is a vibrant festival celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the world. May this festival further empower the spirit of happiness, togetherness, and prosperity. Have a wonderful Onam,” Modi said.
He also conveyed his greetings to people observing Eid Milad-un-Nabi, highlighting the values of kindness and community spirit associated with the occasion.
“Eid Mubarak! Greetings on Milad-un-Nabi. I hope this occasion furthers togetherness and joy all around us. May the spirit of kindness and giving back to society always guide us,” the Prime Minister said.
President Murmu Highlights Onam’s Cultural Significance
President Droupadi Murmu also greeted citizens on Onam, particularly extending her wishes to members of the Malayali community in India and abroad.
In her message, she highlighted the festival’s connection with the harvest season and Kerala’s cultural traditions. Onam is marked by celebrations including traditional feasts, boat races, music, folk performances and other cultural activities.
The President expressed hope that the festival would bring happiness, peace, good health and prosperity to people and encourage citizens to contribute towards the country’s development.
Murmu Extends Eid Milad-un-Nabi Wishes
On Eid Milad-un-Nabi, President Murmu conveyed her greetings, particularly to members of the Muslim community.
She said the occasion provides an opportunity to remember the teachings and values associated with Prophet Muhammad and draw inspiration from principles of good character, compassion and social responsibility.
The President also called for collective efforts to strengthen an inclusive and progressive India.
Onam And Eid Milad-un-Nabi Celebrated Together
The simultaneous observance of the two festivals brought messages of harmony and mutual respect from the country’s top constitutional authorities.
Onam is a major harvest and cultural festival associated primarily with Kerala and is celebrated during the Malayalam month of Chingam. The festival is traditionally linked with the legendary King Mahabali and is known for elaborate feasts, cultural programmes and community celebrations.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi, observed during Rabi al-Awwal in the Islamic calendar, commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad and is marked by prayers, religious gatherings and remembrance of his teachings.
