Amid swirling speculations surrounding Kamal Nath’s alleged alignment with the BJP, the Congress party has made a resolute statement regarding his son Nakul Nath’s candidature from the Chhindwara stronghold.
Congress General Secretary Jitendra Singh, presently on a tour of Madhya Pradesh to gauge party sentiment, asserted Nakul Nath’s strength as a candidate for the upcoming elections. Singh’s remarks hinted at Nakul Nath’s potential candidacy.
“He is a formidable candidate from there (Chhindwara) and will unquestionably contest the elections,” Singh affirmed to ANI.
Dispelling rumours of Kamal Nath’s departure from the Congress, Singh attributed the speculations to the BJP’s efforts.
“There is no truth to these claims. The BJP has propagated these rumours (about Kamal Nath leaving Congress). He is our senior leader and will participate in today’s meeting regarding the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,” Singh emphasized.
Nakul Nath currently serves as the Member of Parliament from Chhindwara, holding the distinction of being the sole Congress MP from Madhya Pradesh.
Earlier this month, Nakul Nath unilaterally announced his intent to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from his constituency.
“I will once again be your candidate for the Lok Sabha elections. Speculations abound regarding whether Kamal Nath or Nakul Nath will contest the election. I wish to clarify that Kamal Nath will not contest; I will,” Nakul Nath declared.
His declaration fueled conjecture about a potential schism between his family and the Congress leadership.
In recent days, both Nakul Nath and his father have been in Delhi amid swirling rumours of negotiations with BJP leadership.
Kamal Nath has neither confirmed nor definitively refuted the rumours, leaving the political landscape abuzz with anticipation.
