Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party – Sharad Pawar faction (NCP-SP) spokesperson Clyde Crasto launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday over the induction of senior leader Chhagan Bhujbal into the Maharashtra cabinet. Crasto called the move a glaring example of the BJP’s “double standards.”

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Crasto alleged that the BJP had previously gone all out to brand Bhujbal as corrupt, only to now embrace him as part of the government.

“BJP’s new mantra:
First, we call you corrupt,
then we take you,
then we wash you,
then you win,” Crasto posted sarcastically.

He further wrote, “BJP fought tooth and nail to prove that Mr. Chhagan Bhujbal is corrupt, but today, the same person is inducted in Mr. Devendra Fadnavis’s Ministry.”

Crasto concluded with a direct jibe: “Double standards = BJP.”

The remarks come amid Bhujbal’s swearing-in as a cabinet minister in the Devendra Fadnavis-led Mahayuti government, which is supported by the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP.

Bhujbal, a senior OBC leader from the Mali community, had faced allegations of corruption during his previous tenure as PWD minister but was acquitted in several cases. His re-entry into the cabinet has reignited criticism from opposition parties, especially the Sharad Pawar-led NCP faction.

Crasto’s comments underline the opposition’s broader narrative that the BJP has selectively abandoned its anti-corruption stance in pursuit of political convenience.
