Raipur: Voting for the first phase of Chhattisgarh’s three-tier panchayat elections took place on Monday in 53 blocks across the state. Visuals from a polling station in Nimora village showed eager voters casting their ballots, marking the beginning of a crucial electoral process for the state’s local governance.

The Chhattisgarh Election Commission had previously announced that the panchayat elections would be held in three phases on February 17, 20, and 23, with results scheduled for release on February 18, 21, and 24, respectively.

The elections come on the heels of a significant win for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recent Chhattisgarh civic polls. On February 15, Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda congratulated Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and the party workers for their impressive victory in the urban body elections.

BJP clinched mayoral posts in all ten municipal corporations, as well as the chairperson positions in 35 municipal councils and 81 Nagar panchayats. Nadda hailed the “historic victory” as a reflection of the public’s trust in the welfare programs initiated under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

In a celebratory message on social media platform ‘X,’ Nadda wrote, “I heartily congratulate Chief Minister @vishnudsai ji, State President @KiranDeoBJP ji, and all BJP workers in Chhattisgarh on the massive victory in the Chhattisgarh urban body elections.” He further emphasized, “This historic victory symbolizes the unwavering faith of the people in the public welfare and tribal-friendly schemes being implemented by the double-engine government under the guidance of Prime Minister @narendramodi ji.”
