Chandra Bose Resigns from BJP, Citing Unfulfilled Commitments to Netaji’s Ideals

Chandra Bose, the grandnephew of the legendary nationalist leader Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has announced his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His decision, made public on Wednesday, stems from his belief that the party failed to uphold the commitments to advance the vision of his illustrious ancestor. Chandra Bose joined the BJP in 2016 and had twice run as a BJP candidate, first in the 2016 assembly elections and later in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Expressing his disillusionment, Chandra Bose stated, “When I joined the BJP, I was promised the opportunity to promote the inclusive ideology of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Sarat Chandra Bose. Regrettably, those promises were not fulfilled.”

Chandra Bose had held the position of West Bengal BJP vice-president since 2016 but was removed from this role as part of an organizational reshuffle in 2020.

In his resignation letter addressed to BJP chief JP Nadda, Chandra Bose elaborated, “My discussions with the BJP revolved around the inclusive ideology of the Bose Brothers (Netaji and his elder brother Sarat Chandra Bose, who was also a prominent freedom fighter). I understood then, as I did later, that I would disseminate this ideology nationwide through the BJP platform. Furthermore, we had agreed to establish an Azad Hind Morcha within the BJP framework, with the primary objective of propagating Netaji’s ideology, aimed at uniting all communities under the banner of ‘Bharatiyas,’ transcending religion, caste, and creed.”

Chandra Bose emphasized the imperative of keeping the nation united, asserting, “My passionate efforts to achieve these noble objectives received no support from the BJP, both at the central and state levels in West Bengal. I had presented a comprehensive proposal outlining a strategy tailored for Bengal to engage with the state’s people. Unfortunately, my proposals were disregarded.
