The Central government on Friday assured citizens that fuel supplies across the country remain stable and there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG despite recent developments in western India. Officials urged people not to panic or engage in bulk booking of LPG cylinders.
During an inter-ministerial briefing, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary (Marketing & Oil Refinery) at the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said the government is closely monitoring the situation and has taken several steps to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential fuels.
“I appeal to all fellow citizens not to panic and to refrain from panic-booking,” Sharma said, addressing concerns over possible shortages.
Extra Kerosene Supply Approved for States
To strengthen fuel availability, the Centre has asked state governments to identify distribution points for an additional 48,000 kilolitres of kerosene sanctioned beyond the regular quota.
Officials said the move is aimed at supporting vulnerable sections and ensuring energy availability in areas where kerosene is still widely used.
The government has also activated alternative fuel arrangements to support small and medium consumers. Under these measures, Coal India Limited has been directed to supply coal to small and medium industries that may face fuel supply challenges.
By how much has India increased LPG production and what priority measures have been taken for hospitals and schools?
The government said domestic LPG supply remains completely uninterrupted across the country. Hospitals and educational institutions have been given priority in cylinder deliveries to ensure essential services continue smoothly.
According to Sharma, LPG production has been increased by nearly 30 percent compared to March 5 to strengthen supply chains and ensure adequate availability across the country.
Commercial LPG cylinders have also been placed under the control of state governments for priority-based distribution wherever required.
Petrol and Diesel Stocks Adequate Nationwide
Addressing concerns about petrol and diesel availability, the government confirmed that fuel stocks remain sufficient across India.
Refineries are currently operating at full capacity and have adequate crude oil inventories to maintain production levels.
Officials said no LPG distributor has reported a dry-out situation, indicating that the supply network continues to function normally.
The Centre also urged citizens not to believe rumours circulating on social media and warned against unnecessary hoarding of fuel.
Are PNG and CNG supplies affected in India amid fuel shortage concerns?
The government further clarified that supplies of piped natural gas (PNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) remain uninterrupted across the country.
Commercial consumers facing LPG supply issues have been advised to consider switching to PNG connections through local gas distribution networks where available.
Authorities said the government will continue to monitor the situation closely and take additional measures if necessary to maintain stable fuel supplies nationwide.
