US President Donald Trump told leaders of the G7 during a virtual meeting that Iran was “about to surrender” following recent military action carried out by the United States and its allies.
According to officials from three G7 countries who were briefed on the discussion, Trump made the remarks during a call with leaders of the world’s major industrialised nations while discussing the outcome of the military campaign known as Operation Epic Fury.
Officials familiar with the conversation said Trump described the operation as a major success and highlighted what he called its strategic impact on Iran’s military capabilities.
Trump Claims Operation Was Major Success
During the discussion with allied leaders, Trump reportedly said the operation had eliminated a major threat in the region.
“I got rid of a cancer that was threatening us all,” Trump said while referring to the situation involving Iran, according to a report by Axios.
Sources said the US President emphasised that the military operation had significantly weakened Iran’s military infrastructure and leadership.
The remarks were made as the conflict between Iran and a US-Israel alliance continues to escalate across the Middle East.
Iran Launches Drone Strikes on Gulf Nations
The situation intensified early Friday when Iran launched a series of attacks targeting several Gulf Arab countries.
Officials said waves of drones were directed toward Saudi Arabia and other nations in the region that host American military bases.
The strikes came shortly after warnings issued by Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who had cautioned regional governments against allowing US forces to operate from their territories.
Trump Threatens Strong Retaliation
Reacting to the attacks, Trump issued a strong warning to Iran through a social media post.
“Watch what happens to these deranged scumbags today. Iran’s Navy is gone, their Air Force is no longer, missiles, drones and everything else are being decimated, and their leaders have been wiped from the face of the earth,” the US President wrote.
The statement signaled the possibility of further military retaliation if Iran continues attacks in the region.
Mojtaba Khamenei Issues Stark Warning
In his first public remarks since assuming power, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei vowed revenge for the death of his father, former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
He said Iran would continue confronting the United States and Israel along with their regional allies.
Khamenei also indicated that Iran plans to use the strategically important Strait of Hormuz as leverage in the conflict and warned that the vital oil shipping route could remain closed to increase pressure on adversaries.
Iran Demands Removal of US Bases
The Iranian leader also demanded the removal of all American military bases from the Middle East.
He warned that continued US military presence in the region could trigger further attacks and said Iran is prepared to widen the conflict by opening additional fronts if tensions escalate further.
Analysts say the latest exchange of threats and attacks has pushed the region closer to a broader confrontation, raising concerns about global energy supplies and regional stability.
